Podcast 62: Fergal Dowling of Irwin Mitchell on leading in lockdown

Fergal Dowling is a partner at Irwin Mitchell and Head of Employment law. He shares the challenges of moving to remote working with very short notice and how they are operating under pressure with a significant increase in workload at a time when regulation is changing daily.

I loved Fergal’s comment that we don’t like change but we are actually very good at it when we have to lead through a crisis. There’s something about the human spirit that brings us together under adversity, It’s important to remember as he says that we are in this for the long haul and need to pay attention to physical and mental wellbeing beyond the first couple of weeks of this process. Communication is going to be crucial.

Fergal has shared his experience of leading remotely with an increased workload and all the challenges that entails. In the coming weeks I’ll be sharing other perspectives too – where businesses have little or no income, experiences of people who are being furloughed and much more.
